About Auchan

Auchan is a French retail group that opened its first store in 1961, founded by Gérard Mulliez. It is headquartered in Croix, in the Lille metropolitan area, and is controlled by the Mulliez family through the holding company ELO. The group runs hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores in several countries. Products filed under the Auchan name in our database are the retailer's own-label toiletries – mouthwashes, toothpastes, shampoos, shaving gels and similar basics – sold alongside its dedicated beauty brand Cosmia.

Auchan basics, by the numbers

Oral care sets the tone for the 97 products filed under Auchan: mouthwashes and toothpastes lead, with shampoos close behind. That shows in the ingredient ranking, where SODIUM BENZOATE (71) comes first after water, ahead of PARFUM (53), GLYCERIN (45) and AROMA (43) – the flavour declaration used in oral care.

PARFUM itself appears in 53 formulas (55%). Denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) is listed in 15 (15%), silicones in 5 (5%) and parabens in 1 (1%).

Reading AROMA and PARFUM

Toothpastes and mouthwashes declare their flavour as AROMA rather than PARFUM, so a low PARFUM count does not mean the range is mostly unflavoured. As with most retailer brands, suppliers can differ by country and over time; compare the pack you buy with the one you remember.
