Methodology

Where the data comes from

Ingredient names, functions, CAS and EC numbers and the annex entries of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 come from CosIng, the European Commission database of cosmetic ingredients. CosIng is an information tool and has no legal value. Every entry shows the date of the CosIng data it uses.

Entries marked “reviewed” also have an editorial description written by an author and checked by a scientific reviewer, with sources and a review date. Other entries show basic CosIng data only and are not indexed by search engines.

How the ingredient checker works

The checker splits the pasted list while respecting brackets, names such as 1,2-Hexanediol, colorant codes (CI) and “may contain” sections. Each item is matched to an INCI name or an approved synonym. Similar spellings are shown as suggestions only and are never applied automatically. Unknown names are marked as unrecognized and get no generated description.

An INCI list does not reveal exact concentrations. The report explains the role of each ingredient. It does not calculate percentages, effectiveness, personal allergy risk or a safety score.

Independence

Advertising does not influence ingredient matching or descriptions. Ownership links between INCIMondo and any brand are disclosed on the brand’s products, and the same description standard applies to all products.
