About Balea med

Balea med is a line within Balea, the store brand of the German drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt, which was founded in Karlsruhe in 1973. Balea was introduced in 1995 and today covers more than 600 products. The med line targets sensitive and very dry skin: product names in our database include "Ultra Sensitive" shampoos, shower gels and face and foot creams, as well as urea-based washes.

A low-fragrance line

Unlike most store-brand ranges, Balea med is largely unscented: only 9 of its 41 products (22%) declare fragrance. Shower gels, shampoos and face creams are the main categories, and after water the most frequent ingredients are GLYCERIN (39), CITRIC ACID (32), PANTHENOL (29) and SODIUM HYDROXIDE (25).

Neither parabens nor silicones appear in any formula; denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) is listed in 4 (10%).

Finding the unscented ones

To be sure a product is fragrance-free, check for the absence of PARFUM and AROMA and of fragrance substances such as LIMONENE or LINALOOL. For the urea-based washes, UREA itself appears by that name. As with any store brand, recipes and suppliers can change, so recheck the pack after a relaunch.
