About Bondi Sands

Bondi Sands is an Australian self-tanning and suncare brand founded in Melbourne in 2012; Shaun Wilson is co-founder and CEO. Japan's Kao Corporation agreed to acquire the company in 2023, when its suncare was sold in more than 32 countries, including Australia, the UK and the US. The range covers self-tan, suncare, skincare and after-sun – our entries are a Zinc Mineral SPF 50+, a daily face SPF 50+ and two self-tanning foams.

Tan foams and sunscreens

Our 4 Bondi Sands entries split into two self-tanning foams and two SPF 50+ products. PHENOXYETHANOL, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE and AQUA appear in all 4, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE in 3, and DIHYDROXYACETONE, PARFUM, COUMARIN, HYDROXYACETOPHENONE and the colourants CI 14700, CI 42090 and CI 19140 in 2.

Silicones are listed in 3 (75%), fragrance in 2 (50%) and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) in 1 (25%); there are no parabens.

Reading a self-tan label

DIHYDROXYACETONE (DHA) is the self-tanning ingredient, while the CI colourants give the foam its instant guide colour – which is most likely why both appear in two products – the tanning foams. In the SPF products the UV filters are listed by their INCI names; compare sunscreens by their filters and SPF rather than by the base ingredients.
