About philosophy

philosophy is an American beauty brand founded in 1996 by Cristina Carlino in Phoenix, Arizona. It began with skin care and later expanded into colour cosmetics, fragrance and bath and body products. Coty acquired it from The Carlyle Group in 2010 in a deal valued at about US$1 billion. Our 5 entries include Purity Made Simple one-step cleanser (also with turmeric), the Microdelivery exfoliating wash, Nature In A Jar detoxifying cleanser and Pink Frosted Animal Cracker.

Cleansers lead

The 5 philosophy entries carry no category tags; four are facial cleansers by name. GLYCERIN appears in all 5, SODIUM HYDROXIDE and CITRIC ACID in 4, and TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL, SODIUM CITRATE and COCO-GLUCOSIDE in 3.

Fragrance and denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.) appear in 1 formula each (20%); none contains parabens or silicones.

Dessert names, plain lists

Names like Pink Frosted Animal Cracker describe a scent theme, yet only one of the five declares PARFUM – so judge scent by the list, not the name. SODIUM HYDROXIDE with CITRIC ACID adjusts pH and does not mean the product is soap.
