About Sensodyne

Sensodyne is a toothpaste and mouthwash brand aimed at people with sensitive teeth. It was first marketed in 1961 by Block Drug, a company from Brooklyn. SmithKline Beecham, later GlaxoSmithKline, bought Block Drug in 2000, and since 2022 the brand has belonged to Haleon, GSK's spun-off consumer health company. Potassium nitrate was added to the formula in 1980.

What Sensodyne tubes have in common

The 29 Sensodyne products in INCIMondo are toothpastes. AROMA – the flavouring – is the most frequent ingredient after water, followed by HYDRATED SILICA, a mild abrasive and thickener, then SODIUM SACCHARIN, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE and GLYCERIN.

None of the 29 formulas contains PARFUM (flavour is listed as AROMA), parabens, silicones or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

Comparing Sensodyne variants

The brand's identity is tied to formulas for sensitive teeth – potassium nitrate was added in 1980 – so the ingredient list is where to see which compounds a particular variant uses, including its fluoride source. Many packs also state the fluoride content in ppm.
