About St. Ives

St. Ives is a skin care brand best known for its apricot facial scrub. It was one of the brands of Alberto Culver, alongside TRESemmé, VO5, Nexxus and Simple, when Unilever announced in September 2010 that it would acquire that company for US$3.7 billion. Our 5 entries include the Apricot facial scrub in several versions, a blemish control scrub and a body lotion with vitamin E and avocado (Spanish label).

Scrub and lotion base

Face scrubs and body milks are among the categories of the 5 St. Ives products. GLYCERIN, CARBOMER, TRIETHANOLAMINE, GLYCERYL STEARATE and CETYL ALCOHOL appear in all 5, with PARFUM, LIMONENE and DISODIUM EDTA in 4.

All 5 declare fragrance (100%), and silicones appear in 1 (20%); none contains parabens or denatured alcohol (ALCOHOL DENAT.).

What makes a scrub

In the apricot scrubs, the exfoliating particles are listed by their INCI names, typically ground shells such as JUGLANS REGIA SHELL POWDER or PRUNUS ARMENIACA SEED POWDER. CARBOMER with TRIETHANOLAMINE forms the gel that suspends them – which is why the pair appears in every product.
