What it is

1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol with solvent and skin-conditioning functions. In formulas it is often used alongside preservatives because it can reduce the growth of microorganisms.

Where it is used

Serums, toners, wet wipes and products labelled as made with alternative preservation systems.

Limits of interpretation
