INCI name

ACRYLATES/VINYL ISODECANOATE CROSSPOLYMER

Acrylates/vinyl isodecanoate crosspolymer

A crosslinked acrylic polymer used as a thickener, emulsion stabiliser and film former.

What it is

Acrylates/vinyl isodecanoate crosspolymer is a copolymer of vinyl isodecanoate with acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or one of their simple esters, crosslinked with a polyalkenyl polyether. CosIng lists it as an emulsion-stabilising, film-forming and viscosity-controlling ingredient.

Where it is used

Found in gels, creams, lotions, sunscreens and other products that need thickening.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show the proportions of the monomers or the molecular weight.

Functions

Emulsion stabilising
Helping the process of emulsification and improving emulsion stability and shelf-life.
Film forming
Producing (upon application) a continuous film on the skin, hair or nails.
Viscosity controlling
Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
