A collective INCI name for extracts of various algae.

What it is

Algae extract is an extract of various species of algae. CosIng marks it as a retired INCI name and lists it as an emollient, humectant, fragrance, oral care and skin-conditioning agent.

Where it is used

Found in creams, masks, body care, hair products and some oral care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The name does not identify the algae species; newer INCI names state the species.
