An ester of beeswax fatty acids and behenyl alcohol, used for conditioning and viscosity control.
What it is
Behenyl beeswax is a mixture of esters of the fatty acids of beeswax with behenyl alcohol (docosanol), a C22 fatty alcohol. CosIng lists it as a skin-conditioning and viscosity-controlling ingredient.
Where it is used
Used in lipsticks, lip balms, mascaras, creams and other stick or balm products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The acid part comes from beeswax, an animal-derived material; the INCI name does not reveal the origin of the alcohol.
Functions
- Skin conditioning
- Maintaining the skin in good condition.
- Viscosity controlling
- Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
