INCI name

BRASSICYL VALINATE ESYLATE

Brassicyl valinate esylate

A cationic ester of the amino acid valine used as a hair- and skin-conditioning ingredient.

What it is

Brassicyl valinate esylate is the ethanesulfonate (esylate) salt of esters of L-valine with C18–22 alcohols; the brassicyl part of the name refers to these long alkyl chains. It is a cationic ingredient. CosIng lists it as an emollient, emulsion-stabilising, hair-conditioning and skin-conditioning ingredient.

Where it is used

Found mainly in hair conditioners, hair masks and leave-in products, as well as some creams.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not reveal the source of the alcohols used, and the alkyl chain lengths form a range rather than a single compound.
