A hydrogenated synthetic polymer used to thicken oils.
What it is
Butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer is a synthetic polymer of butylene, ethylene and styrene that has been terminated by hydrogenation. CosIng lists it as a viscosity-controlling agent.
Where it is used
Used in lip glosses, oil gels, cleansing balms, makeup and some creams.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
In formulas it is often supplied pre-dispersed in oils together with other polymers, which then appear separately on the list.
Functions
- Viscosity controlling
- Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
