A mixture of branched hydrocarbons used as a solvent.
What it is
C11-13 isoalkane, formerly called C11-13 isoparaffin, is a mixture of branched-chain aliphatic hydrocarbons with 11 to 13 carbon atoms. It is a colourless, oily liquid. CosIng lists it as a solvent.
Where it is used
Found in makeup removers, foundations, sprays, hair care products and other products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The raw material is a mixture of hydrocarbons rather than a single compound, which is why more than one CAS number is listed.
Functions
- Solvent
- Dissolving other components of cosmetics. Solvents are usually liquids (aqueous and nonaqueous).
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
