A mixture of C12 and C13 fatty alcohols used as an emollient and thickener.
What it is
C12-13 alcohols is a mixture of fatty alcohols with 12 and 13 carbon atoms. CosIng lists it as an emollient, emulsion-stabilising and viscosity-controlling ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in a small number of products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The INCI name does not reveal whether the alcohols are of plant or petrochemical origin.
Functions

- Acting as lubricants on the skin surface providing the skin with a soft and smooth appearance.
- Emulsion stabilising
- Helping the process of emulsification and improving emulsion stability and shelf-life.
- Viscosity controlling
- Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
