A mixture of branched hydrocarbons, used as a solvent.
What it is
C13-16 isoparaffin is a mixture of branched alkanes (isoparaffins) with 13 to 16 carbon atoms, a clear, light liquid usually obtained from petroleum. CosIng lists it as a solvent.
Where it is used
Found in creams, sunscreens, makeup, hair products and cleansing products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
C13-16 describes a range of chain lengths, so the raw material is a mixture rather than a single compound.
Functions
- Solvent
- Dissolving other components of cosmetics. Solvents are usually liquids (aqueous and nonaqueous).
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
