Calcium aluminium borosilicate

Bulkingreviewed

A glass powder used as a base for shimmer pigments.

What it is

Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate is a glass made essentially of calcium and aluminium borosilicates. CosIng lists it as a bulking agent. In practice, its thin flakes are often coated with colorants such as titanium dioxide or iron oxides to create pearlescent effects.

Where it is used

Found in eyeshadows, highlighters, nail polishes, lip glosses and other shimmering makeup.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

When it appears in a pearlescent product, the colour usually comes from the coating colorants listed separately by CI number.
