A lipophilic derivative of salicylic acid.
What it is
Capryloyl salicylic acid is salicylic acid esterified with caprylic (octanoic) acid, which makes it more oil-soluble; it is sometimes called LHA (lipo-hydroxy acid). CosIng lists it as a skin-conditioning agent.
Where it is used
Used in face creams, serums, toners and products for oily and blemish-prone skin.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
It is a different substance from salicylic acid, and the label does not show its concentration or the pH of the product.
