A retired INCI name for a phytosphingosine-based ceramide, now replaced by Ceramide EOP.
What it is
Ceramide 1 is, according to CosIng, an N-acylated phytosphingosine with the erythro structure. CosIng notes that this INCI name, created in 1997, was given retired status in 2014 and that the new name assignment is Ceramide EOP. CosIng lists it as a hair-conditioning and skin-conditioning ingredient.
Where it is used
Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
Because the name is retired, the same material may appear on other labels as Ceramide EOP. The INCI name does not show the exact fatty acid chain lengths.
