INCI name

CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA FLOWER/LEAF/STEM WATER

German chamomile water

An aqueous distillate from German chamomile, used as a fragrance.

What it is

Chamomilla recutita flower/leaf/stem water is an aqueous solution of the steam distillate obtained from the flowers, leaves and stems of German chamomile, Chamomilla recutita, of the daisy family (Asteraceae). CosIng lists it as a fragrance and perfuming ingredient.

Where it is used

Found in toners, face mists, creams and other skin care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

A steam distillate contains only volatile, water-carried compounds, so its composition differs from that of a chamomile extract.

Functions

Fragrance
Imparting an odour or taste. Creating a perceivable pleasant smell and/or masking a bad smell.
