What it is
Charcoal powder is a black, porous carbon. In cosmetics it is used as an absorbent, mild abrasive and colorant.
Where it is used
Found in masks, cleansers, toothpastes and scrubs.
Limits of interpretation

Claims about “detox” effects are marketing; the INCI list does not confirm any effect.

- Taking up water- and/or oil-soluble (dissolved or finely dispersed) substances.
- Opacifying
- Reducing transparency or translucency of cosmetics.
