A synthetic red azo colorant.
What it is
CI 14720 is the Colour Index number of azorubine, also called carmoisine, a synthetic red monoazo dye that is also used in foods (E122). In the EU it is listed in Annex IV (allowed colorants).
Where it is used
Found in soaps, shower gels, bath products, shampoos and some lip and makeup products, giving a red or pink colour.
Limits of interpretation

- Exclusively or mainly intended to colour the cosmetic product, the body as a whole or certain parts thereof, by absorption or reflection of visible light; (precursors of oxidative hair colorants shall be deemed colorants). All authorised colorants are substances in the positive list of Annex IV to the Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.
