CORN STARCH MODIFIED

A chemically modified corn starch used as an absorbent, film former and thickener.

What it is

Corn starch modified is corn starch reacted with dodecenylsuccinic anhydride and converted to the calcium salt, with a low degree of substitution. CosIng lists it as absorbent, film-forming, skin-conditioning and viscosity-controlling.

Where it is used

Used in powders, dry shampoos, deodorants, creams and makeup.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name covers a specific type of modification; other modified starches have different INCI names.
