INCI name

CYCLOMETHICONE

Cyclomethicone

A mixture of volatile cyclic silicones.

What it is

Cyclomethicone is a generic name for a mixture of cyclic silicones with four to six silicon–oxygen units (D4–D6). CosIng lists it as emollient, hair conditioning and solvent. CosIng links it to an entry in Annex II of the EU Cosmetics Regulation (substances prohibited in cosmetic products).

Where it is used

Historically used in hair serums, antiperspirants, foundations and primers for a light, quickly evaporating feel.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

See the EU regulation section for the scope of the Annex II entry. A listing in this database does not mean the product is currently sold in the EU.
