What it is
Diethylhexyl syringylidenemalonate is a synthetic malonic acid ester derived from syringaldehyde (a dimethoxy hydroxybenzylidene structure). CosIng lists it as skin protecting.
Where it is used
Found mainly in sun care, day creams and make-up with sun protection.
Limits of interpretation

It is not one of the UV filters listed in Annex VI, so it does not by itself determine a product’s SPF.
