INCI name

DIMER DILINOLEYL DIMER DILINOLEATE

Dimer dilinoleyl dimer dilinoleate

A high-molecular-weight ester of dimer acid used as an emollient, binder and thickener.

What it is

Dimer dilinoleyl dimer dilinoleate is the ester of dilinoleic acid (a dimer of linoleic acid) with dimer dilinoleyl alcohol, a viscous, high-molecular-weight material. CosIng lists it as a binding, emollient, hair-conditioning, skin-conditioning and viscosity-controlling ingredient.

Where it is used

Found in lipsticks, lip glosses, lip balms and other makeup.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Dimer acids and alcohols are mixtures, so the raw material is not a single defined compound.
