INCI name

DIMETHICONOL

Dimethiconol

A silicone polymer that gives a smooth, silky film.

What it is

Dimethiconol is a silicone similar to dimethicone but with hydroxyl groups at the chain ends. It is often supplied as a high-viscosity gum blended with lighter silicones and leaves a smooth, protective film on skin and hair.

Where it is used

Found in conditioners, hair serums, primers and creams.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Silicones differ widely in volatility and feel; the INCI name alone does not show how heavy the finished product will feel.
