What it is

Disodium stearoyl glutamate is the disodium salt of the amide of stearic acid and glutamic acid. CosIng lists it as cleansing, cleansing surfactant, hair conditioning and skin conditioning.

Where it is used

Used in creams, lotions, sun care and cleansers.

Functions

Surfactant – cleansing: Wetting body surfaces, emulsifying or solubilizing oils, and suspending soil (generally, such ingredients contribute to the foaming and lathering properties of cleansing products).
