INCI name

DISTEARETH-100 IPDI

Disteareth-100 IPDI

A urethane of isophorone diisocyanate and steareth-100, used as a viscosity-controlling ingredient.

What it is

Disteareth-100 IPDI is the urethane formed from isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and two molecules of steareth-100, the polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol with an average of 100 ethylene oxide units. CosIng lists it as a viscosity-controlling ingredient.

Where it is used

Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The number 100 is an average, so the raw material is a mixture of molecules of different sizes.

Functions

Viscosity controlling
Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
