A waxy synthetic amide used to control viscosity.
What it is
Ethylene distearamide is N,N'-ethylenedi(stearamide), a compound in which two stearic acid (C18) chains are linked through amide bonds to ethylenediamine. It is a hard, waxy solid. CosIng lists it as a viscosity-controlling ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in lipsticks, mascaras, creams and other products with a structured texture.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The label does not show the amount used.
Functions
- Viscosity controlling
- Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
