A wax that gives shampoos a pearly look.

What it is

Glycol distearate is an ester of ethylene glycol and stearic acid. It forms tiny crystals that give liquid products a pearly, opaque appearance and some thickness.

Where it is used

Found in shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Its role is mainly visual; it says little about cleansing performance.
