HYDROGENATED MICROCRYSTALLINE CERA

Hydrogenated microcrystalline wax

A hydrotreated petroleum wax used to control viscosity.

What it is

Hydrogenated microcrystalline cera is microcrystalline wax treated with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst: a complex mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from residual petroleum oils by solvent crystallisation. CosIng lists it as a viscosity-controlling agent.

Where it is used

Found in lipsticks, lip balms, mascaras, creams and other anhydrous products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show the melting point or exact hydrocarbon composition of the grade used.
