INCI name

HYDROGENATED OLIVE OIL

Hydrogenated olive oil

Olive oil hardened by hydrogenation.

What it is

Hydrogenated Olive Oil is the product of the controlled hydrogenation of olive oil (Olea europaea), which turns it into a firmer, more stable fat. CosIng lists it for skin conditioning and viscosity control.

Where it is used

Found in balms, lip care, body butters, creams, stick products and soaps.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Hydrogenation changes the fatty acid profile, so its properties differ from those of the original olive oil.

Functions

Skin conditioning
Maintaining the skin in good condition.
Viscosity controlling
Increasing or decreasing the viscosity (thickness) of cosmetics.
