HYDROXYCITRONELLAL

Hydroxycitronellal

Perfumingreviewed

A floral fragrance ingredient labelled as an allergen above set thresholds.

What it is

Hydroxycitronellal is a synthetic aroma chemical with a lily-of-the-valley scent. It is a fragrance allergen that must be named in the EU above 0.001% (leave-on) or 0.01% (rinse-off), and its concentration is also limited in Annex III.

Where it is used

Found in perfumes and perfumed products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Its presence on the label means it exceeds the labelling threshold; it does not mean the product will cause a reaction.
