An ester of retinoic acid used as a skin-conditioning ingredient.
What it is
Hydroxypinacolone retinoate is an ester of all-trans retinoic acid with hydroxypinacolone (1-hydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutan-2-one). It belongs to the group of retinoids. CosIng lists it as a skin-conditioning ingredient.
Where it is used
Found in serums, night creams and other skin care products that contain retinoids, sometimes listed together with dimethyl isosorbide as a solvent.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The INCI list does not show the concentration used. Retinoids are sensitive to light and air, so the packaging and formula also matter.
