INCI name

LINALOOL

Linalool

A fragrance substance that must be labelled as an allergen above set thresholds.

What it is

Linalool is a fragrance substance found in lavender, coriander and many other plants. It is one of the fragrance allergens that EU rules require to be named on the label above set thresholds. Its oxidation products, formed on exposure to air, are known skin sensitisers.

Where it is used

Perfumed products and products with essential oils.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Its presence on the label means it is above the labelling threshold; it does not mean the product will cause a reaction.
