INCI name

LITHIUM MAGNESIUM SILICATE

Lithium magnesium silicate

An inorganic silicate used as a thickener and bulking agent.

What it is

Lithium magnesium silicate is a lithium and magnesium salt of silicic acid. CosIng lists it as binding, bulking and viscosity controlling.

Where it is used

Used in creams, gels, makeup, toothpastes and other products that need a stable texture.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

Its position on the list does not tell you how much it contributes to the texture of the product.

Functions

Binding
Providing adhesive properties during and after compression in cosmetic tablets and/or cakes.
Bulking
Non-reactive (chemically inert), solid ingredients that dilute other solids and/or increase the volume of cosmetic products.
