MACADAMIA SEED OIL POLYGLYCERYL-4 ESTERS

Macadamia seed oil polyglyceryl-4 esters

Polyglycerol esters made from macadamia oil, used as emollients and emulsifiers.

What it is

Macadamia seed oil polyglyceryl-4 esters is the product obtained by transesterification of macadamia seed oil (Macadamia ternifolia) with polyglycerin-4. CosIng lists it as an emollient, emulsifying surfactant, hair-conditioning agent and cleansing surfactant.

Where it is used

Found in cleansing oils, makeup removers, creams and hair care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The number 4 refers to the average number of glycerol units, so the raw material is a mixture rather than a single compound.

Functions

Skin conditioning – emollient
Acting as lubricants on the skin surface providing the skin with a soft and smooth appearance.
Surfactant – emulsifying
Helping suspensions or dispersions of liquids in a second liquid by reducing the surface tension of the substances to be emulsified.
Hair conditioning
Enhancing the appearance and feel of hair. Leaving the hair easy to comb, supple, soft and shiny and/or imparting volume, lightness, gloss, texture, etc.
Surfactant – cleansing
Wetting body surfaces, emulsifying or solubilizing oils, and suspending soil (generally, such ingredients contribute to the foaming and lathering properties of cleansing products).
