INCI name

MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate

A water-soluble vitamin C derivative.

What it is

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate is the magnesium salt of ascorbyl phosphate, a phosphate ester of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It is more stable in formulas than pure ascorbic acid. CosIng lists it as an antioxidant and skin conditioning agent.

Where it is used

Found in serums, creams, toners and masks, often in products built around vitamin C.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

It is a derivative, not ascorbic acid itself, and the label does not show how much is used.

Functions

Antioxidant
Inhibiting reactions promoted by oxygen, thus avoiding oxidation and rancidity.
Skin conditioning
Maintaining the skin in good condition.
