A starch-derived carbohydrate used as a binder and film former.

What it is

Maltodextrin is a mixture of short sugar chains obtained by partial breakdown of starch from corn, wheat or potato. In cosmetics it acts as a binder, absorbent and film former and is often a carrier for plant extracts.

Where it is used

Found in powders, masks, creams and products containing dried extracts.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

When it appears with an extract, it may simply be the carrier on which the extract was supplied.
