An essential oil from spearmint leaves.
What it is
Mentha viridis leaf oil is distilled from spearmint leaves. Its main component is carvone, which gives the typical sweet mint scent and flavour.
Where it is used
Toothpastes, mouthwashes, lip balms and fragranced products.
Limits of interpretation
