INCI name

MICA

Mica (CI 77019)

A mineral pigment that adds shimmer and slip.

What it is

Mica is a naturally occurring silicate mineral ground into thin, flat particles. It reflects light, giving a pearly or shimmering effect, and improves how powders spread; it is often coated with titanium dioxide or iron oxides.

Where it is used

Found in eyeshadows, highlighters, powders, lipsticks and shimmering body products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show where the mica was mined; responsible sourcing is a supply-chain question the label cannot answer.
