INCI name

PEG-10 PHYTOSTEROL

PEG-10 phytosterol

An ethoxylated plant sterol used as an emulsifier.

What it is

PEG-10 phytosterol is a plant sterol (mainly beta-sitosterol type) reacted with an average of ten units of ethylene oxide. CosIng lists it as an emulsifying surfactant.

Where it is used

Used in creams, lotions, serums and hair care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The number 10 refers to the average degree of ethoxylation, and the sterol part is a mixture whose composition depends on the plant source.

Functions

Surfactant – emulsifying
Helping suspensions or dispersions of liquids in a second liquid by reducing the surface tension of the substances to be emulsified.
