INCI name

PEG-240/HDI COPOLYMER BIS-DECYLTETRADECETH-20 ETHER

PEG-240/HDI copolymer bis-decyltetradeceth-20 ether

A synthetic polyurethane-type polymer, used as a thickener.

What it is

PEG-240/HDI copolymer bis-decyltetradeceth-20 ether is a copolymer of polyethylene glycol (an average of 240 ethylene oxide units) and hexamethylene diisocyanate, capped at both ends with decyltetradeceth-20, an ethoxylated branched fatty alcohol. CosIng lists it as a light-stabilising and viscosity-controlling ingredient.

Where it is used

Found in creams, lotions and hair care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show the molecular weight of the polymer.

Functions

Light stabilizer
Protecting the cosmetic product from deterioration effects of light.
