A synthetic polyurethane copolymer used as an absorbent.
What it is
PEG-400/1,4-butanediol/SMDI copolymer is a polyurethane-type copolymer of PEG-400 (a polyethylene glycol), 1,4-butanediol and SMDI, a saturated diisocyanate identified in its chemical name as 1,1'-methylenebis(4-isocyanatocyclohexane). CosIng lists it as an absorbent.
Where it is used
Found in a small number of skin care and makeup products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The raw material is a polymer rather than a single compound, which is why more than one CAS number is listed.
Functions
- Absorbent
- Taking up water- and/or oil-soluble (dissolved or finely dispersed) substances.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
