A copolymer of polyethylene glycol and dodecyl glycol, used as an emulsion stabiliser.
What it is
PEG-45/dodecyl glycol copolymer is, according to CosIng, a polymer in which polyethylene glycol (an average of 45 ethylene oxide units) is joined by ether links to polymerised 1,2-dodecanediol (dodecyl glycol, an average of about 22 units). CosIng lists it as an emulsion-stabilising ingredient.
Where it is used
Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The numbers in the name are averages; the material is a mixture of polymer chains of different lengths.
Functions
- Emulsion stabilising
- Helping the process of emulsification and improving emulsion stability and shelf-life.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
