A modified silicone with polyether, phenylisopropyl and caprylyl groups, used as an emulsion stabiliser.
What it is
PEG/PPG-20/20 phenylisopropyl caprylyl dimethicone is, as its INCI name indicates, a dimethicone (polydimethylsiloxane) modified with polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol chains (an average of 20 units each) and with phenylisopropyl and caprylyl groups. CosIng lists it as an emulsion-stabilising, hair-conditioning and skin-conditioning ingredient.
Where it is used
Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The numbers in the name are averages; the material is a mixture of molecules of different sizes.
