INCI name

POLYQUATERNIUM-22

Polyquaternium-22

A cationic copolymer used as an antistatic and film-forming agent.

What it is

Polyquaternium-22 is a copolymer of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride and acrylic acid. CosIng lists it as antistatic and film forming.

Where it is used

Used in shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, cleansers and some skin care products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The number in the name only distinguishes it from other polyquaternium polymers; it says nothing about strength or amount.

Functions

Antistatic
Preventing and/or reducing static electricity by neutralising electrical charge on surfaces.
Film forming
Producing (upon application) a continuous film on the skin, hair or nails.
