INCI name

POLYSILICONE-22

Polysilicone-22

A crosslinked siloxane polymer with a resinous coating, listed as a viscosity-controlling ingredient.

What it is

Polysilicone-22 is, according to CosIng, a complex siloxane polymer made by reacting hydrogen dimethicone with dodecene and crosslinking it with bis-vinyldimethicone; the material is then treated with methyltrimethoxysilane and aminopropyl trimethoxysilane, which form a resinous coating over the crosslinked silicone. CosIng lists it as a viscosity-controlling ingredient.

Where it is used

Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products.

Limits of interpretation

The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.

The INCI name does not show the molecular weight or the degree of crosslinking of the polymer.
