A synthetic urethane polymer, used as a binder.
What it is
Polyurethane-80 is a urethane polymer made in several steps: a hydroxyl-terminated polyester is first prepared from diethyl carbonate, glycol, 1,2-hexanediol and epsilon-caprolactone, and then reacted with isophorone diisocyanate. CosIng lists it as a binding ingredient.
Where it is used
Appears on the ingredient lists of a small number of products, such as make-up.
Limits of interpretation
The INCI list shows which ingredients are present, not how much of each. Above 1%, ingredients are listed in descending order of weight; below 1% the order is free.
The INCI name does not show the molecular weight of the polymer.
Functions
- Binding
- Providing adhesive properties during and after compression in cosmetic tablets and/or cakes.
EU regulation
This ingredient is not listed in the annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 in the CosIng data.
